Night to Shine
On February 6th, we had an opportunity to use our talents for an amazing cause, Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine, hosted by Cresthill Baptist Church. Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older. On one night, 721 churches from around the world come together to host Night to Shine for approximately 115,000 honored guests through the support of 215,000 volunteers! Margot Painter, Cresthill Baptist’s first lady, does a beautiful job planning this awesome event, and our team had the opportunity to design the space for a once in a lifetime experience. The foundation asks that we decorate in the colors: aqua blue, black and silver. There were balloons galore (executed by one of our talented vendors, Pumped by Queen B) and lots of glitz and glam! The attendees had such an amazing time; they had the opportunity to take limo rides around the town, enjoy a meal, get dolled up by a glam squad, or simply sit in a quiet room, free from excessive stimuli.
Why is Night to Shine so important to me? I’ve been working with the special needs population for over a decade. While in college, I worked in a group home with adults who are developmentally delayed. They had a huge impact on my life because they taught me about the beauty of neurodiversity. I will never forget that experience. Subsequently, I went off to work with elementary, middle and high school students with special needs in the role of a School Psychologist. While challenging at times, I truly enjoy serving my students and families.
Serving others, in any capacity is a huge desire of my heart. I believe that we rise by lifting others. So while, event planning is often viewed as a for profit industry, there is plenty of room for service work. After all, I believe that everyone deserves to be celebrated in a major way!
The Helping Hans Project (THHP)
THHP is a service project offered through our company. THHP is designed to celebrate individuals who make extraordinary contributions to human welfare and social reform.
